Frequently Asked Questions
General
Ice is a new rewards programme for people who buy sustainable products and services. Ice has built a network of retail partners offering great sustainable alternatives to everyday products and services. Unlike conventional rewards programmes, customers can collect and spend their Ice points on the same partners and products. There are no catches, and customers can spend any Ice points in their Ice account, and combined with cash or card payment to get a discount or pay in full.
The Ice business structure includes an advisory panel of global experts in climate change and environmental issues. The panel offers practical advice and guidance on partner selection criteria and programme structure.
Before inviting any company to join Ice, we research their environmental credentials. Many businesses are making progress to clean up their supply chain, product manufacturing and packing to mitigate climate change and protect our planet. Some partners may be environmentally superior to others, but all are an improvement on the industry standard. You can find each of our partner’s environmental credentials in full on www.myice.com.
Climate change is a natural shift that has occurred many times in the life of our planet. Environmental scientists now believe that human population growth and fossil fuel exploitation over the past century have brought about a very sudden period of man-made global warming. The rapid increase in the release of carbon dioxide and other heat-retaining gases into the atmosphere, and the depletion of the planet’s carbon-absorbing forests have tipped the scales. The result is that the planet is already warming up, and the trend looks set to accelerate. Once warming goes beyond a certain point, it becomes a chain-reaction and accelerates even more.
As sunlight hits the Earth’s surface, some energy is reflected back out into space and some is absorbed by the atmosphere. This natural process is the greenhouse effect. The atmosphere’s capacity to absorb heat depends on how much of it is made up of ‘greenhouse’ gases. The Atmosphere is incredibly important; it’s what keeps the planet at a habitable temperature. If the proportion of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere significantly increases, the amount of heat energy retained inside the Earth’s atmosphere will increase, the system will lose balance and average temperatures will rise. That’s what has been happening, and is happening now.
